(((ECHO)))

echo brackets

Why (((Echo))) on Twitter? I didn’t know, so I looked it up. I found several articles, but liked this one the best. Or, hated it the most: http://metro.co.uk/2016/06/05/people-are-putting-echoes-around-their-names-on-twitter-heres-why-5925002/

In brief: For a while, white nationalists, neo-Nazis and anti-Semites – groups largely now part of the disturbing ‘alt-right’ movement – have been putting three sets of brackets around Jewish people’s surnames on Twitter. The brackets worked like a dog whistle – other neo-Nazi followers would see it, and send that person a barrage of anti-Semitic abuse. It essentially put a virtual target on Jewish people’s heads.

Non-Jewish people have also been using the echo around their own names to confuse anti-Semites, and in solidarity with victims of harassment.

This is outrageous! It made me want to cry. It’s hard to understand how we can still have this much hate in the world.

I believe we are all created equal. Black. White. Hispanic. Asian. Christians. Jews. Muslims. Atheists. Democrats. Republicans. Libertarians. Tea Partiers. Independents. Progressives. Straights. Homosexuals. Bisexuals. Transgenders. We are all humans. EVERYONE deserves kindness and respect. There is no room in the world for hate-filled messages.

Now I understand “Why (((Echo))).” At least, I get the reason for the brackets around names on Twitter. Its now a sign of support. However, I’ll never get the reason for the NEED for the brackets. I’ll never get the reason to Hate, especially the reason of hating someone just because they are different.

I’m curious. I research to understand the issues or learn the back story. I’ve always done it, and always will. My dedication to trying to understanding the full story from all sides is one reason why I’ll be a good #Rep for #Salem.
