COVID-19 Update February 5

  • Total: 2,138 confirmed cases in Salem. 
  • Salem’s Positivity Rate for the past 2 weeks: 7.4%
  • 1 out of every 14 Salem residents has been infected
  • Salem today: 17 new cases; 130 active cases.

On Friday, February 5, 2021, DHHS announced 500 new positive test results for COVID-19, for a current PCR test positivity rate of 2.3%. Today’s results include 323 people who tested positive by PCR test and 177 who tested positive by antigen test. There are now 4,062 current COVID-19 cases diagnosed in New Hampshire. Of the results reported today: 

  • 2/3: 158 new cases today, for an updated total of 457 cases 
  • 2/4: 342 new cases 

Test results for previous days are still being processed and the total number of new positives for those days are not yet complete. Updated case counts for prior days will be reflected on the COVID-19 interactive dashboard.

  • Salem has 17 new cases today, bringing our total to 98 over the past week. 
  • Although NH’s active cases went down by 37, Salem’s count went up by 6.
  • NH DHHS reported 500 new cases today; the one-week average is 412 per day. 
  • NH has tested slightly more than 605,000 people for COVID-19. 
  • DHHS reports that this past week the average is PCR 10,151 tests per day. 
  • NH has had 1,297,471 total PCR tests, and 144,872 Antigen tests, for a total of 1,442,343 tests. 
  • Massachusetts just passed 14 Million tests.
  • Healthcare Workers: In the past week, NH DHHS reports that 92 healthcare workers have been infected, bringing the total to 3,830. Two more were hospitalized, for a total of 78. None died, leaving the total at 11.
  • Long-term Care Residents: In the past week, 67 of those at long-term care facilities have been diagnosed, bringing the total to 5,830. Four were hospitalized, bringing the total to 253. 29 of the 49 COVID-19 deaths were LTC residents, for a total of 799 LTC deaths out of 1,091 deaths were LTC residents.
  • There are 4,062 active cases today, the lowest since November 19.
  • Another 509 people were reported today as “recovered,” bringing that total up past 62,000 for the first time. (92.4% of all confirmed cases.)
  • Since the last update, the number of people who have been admitted to the hospital for the first time decreased by 11, bringing us back under 200 for the second time since December 7.
  • One more person was admitted to the ICU in the 24-hours since the last report, the fifth person in the last seven days.
  • Six more people died in NH from COVID since the last update, including one person from Rockingham County. 
  • Of those who died today, one was in their 30’s. This is the second death for people in the 30-39-year-old age range this week, bringing the total to four.

  • NH DHHS reports that the new cases reside in Rockingham (118), Hillsborough County other than Manchester and Nashua (72), Strafford (55), Merrimack (54), Grafton (37), Sullivan (21), Belknap (16), Carroll (13), Coos (13), and Cheshire (12) counties, and in the cities of Nashua (38) and Manchester (33). The county of residence is being determined for eighteen new cases.

NH Communities with more than 50 cumulative cases.





The following video was posted almost two months ago. Things have changed in that time. On October 2, US deaths were 1,035,451, according to the video. (My records say 1,033,174 per WorldOmeter.) WorldOMeter now says the global death rate is 1,446,889, an increase of 413,715 in less than two months. Just please remember that there is a lot more between COVID->Death vs. COVID->Recovery. More and more, long-haulers are making the news, as are other consequences of COVID-19.
