COVID-19 Update March 12

  • Total: 2,443 confirmed cases in Salem. 
  • Salem’s Positivity Rate for the past 2 weeks: 6.0%
  • 1 out of every 12 Salem residents has been infected
  • Salem today: 8 new case; 63 active cases.

On Friday, March 12, 2021, DHHS announced 287 new positive test results for COVID-19, for a current PCR test positivity rate of 2.3%. Today’s results include 175 people who tested positive by PCR test and 112 who tested positive by antigen test. There are now 2,177 current COVID-19 cases diagnosed in New Hampshire. Of the results reported today: 

  • 3/11: 287 new cases 

Several cases are still under investigation. Additional information from ongoing investigations will be incorporated into future COVID-19 updates.

  • Today the new cases “by math” (yesterday vs today’s cumulative total of positive cases as reported by DHHS) was 287. NH reported 243 people have “recovered” since yesterday’s update. After allowing for those who lost their lives today because of COVID-19, NH’s number of active cases went up by 63 to 2,177. That’s not as bad as yesterday’s increase of 111, but still too many going in the wrong direction. 
  • Salem added 8 new cases today, the same as our daily average for the past week. From last Friday to today, another 57 Salem residents have been diagnosed with COVID-19.
  • Salem’s active cases are back up to 63, higher than we’ve had in the past two weeks, and 14 more than we had four days ago. 
  • Salem’s new cases per 100K over the past two weeks has dropped to 297, the first time it has gone below 300. It’s still 3x’s the amount considered to be substantial community transmission. NH counties range from 125.2 to 325.
  • Salem’s positivity rate is 6.0%. (Moderate community transmission is 5-10%.)
    • There are 9 communities in NH with more than 10%, same as last week. 
    • There are 47 communities in NH with more than 5%, five less than last week. 
    • There are 83 communities in NH with more than 5%, four more than last week. 
    • 88 NH communities have more than 0%.
    • 33 communities have a higher positivity rate than Salem, 19 less than last week.
  • DHHS is reporting another four more total hospitalized patients today.
  • The total number of patients who have been hospitalized from Rockingham County decreased by one since yesterday.
  • The number of patients currently hospitalized with COVID-19 is 73, five less than yesterday. After several days of increases, this bringing us back down to where we were on Tuesday, which is the lowest since mid-November.
  • NH’s cumulative ICU admissions has increased by one, to 353.
  • Like yesterday, there were four new COVID-19 deaths reported for the period covered by this report, including one person from Rockingham County.

  • NH DHHS reports that the new cases reside in Rockingham (69), Merrimack (39), Hillsborough County other than Manchester and Nashua (34), Strafford (33), Cheshire (19), Grafton (16), Carroll (9), Coos (8), Belknap (5), and Sullivan (2) counties, and in the cities of Manchester (26) and Nashua (15). The county of residence is being determined for twelve new cases.

Hello, Salem!

When I started this project — trying to give Salem residents the information that they wanted about COVID-19 — I thought this would be a one-month or maybe six-week gift to the Town. However, on April 4, it will be the one-year anniversary of my first update. I haven’t missed a day except Christmas. Little did I know that it would last this long! And, I’m getting tired.

When I start the April updates, I’m going to have to change my naming pattern for the updates and the calendars, because it wasn’t designed to go into a second year. So, I’m thinking this is a good time to change some of the format, too.

I need to hear from you! WHAT is it that you are looking for? I know you watch for the heading with the Salem details. I know J.L. uses the calendar; are they the only one? How important is the Spotlight? (Those comparisons take time!) What else do you look for? What do you ignore?

I’d appreciate it if you would send me a message and let me know what it is that you would like to see. Or not see. It would be very helpful as I start to plan future reports.

The following video was posted almost two months ago. Things have changed in that time. On October 2, US deaths were 1,035,451, according to the video. (My records say 1,033,174 per WorldOmeter.) WorldOMeter now says the global death rate is 1,446,889, an increase of 413,715 in less than two months. Just please remember that there is a lot more between COVID->Death vs. COVID->Recovery. More and more, long-haulers are making the news, as are other consequences of COVID-19.

  2. Bonnie: I can certainly appreciate that you are getting tired, so I suggest you do what you are able to do without stress. All of your information is valuable. Of course, we are most interested in Salem statistics, but the overall state and infections by age I find interesting. I don’t care too much about county breakdown; past history–not so much. I’m looking at the present and future, not the past. You do what you feel able to do, and we will appreciate any effort you make.
