  • Total: 2,554 confirmed cases in Salem.

On Tuesday, March 23, 2021, DHHS announced 386 new positive test results for COVID-19, for a current PCR test positivity rate of 3.5%. Today’s results include 194 people who tested positive by PCR test and 192 who tested positive by antigen test. There are now 2,476 current COVID-19 cases diagnosed in New Hampshire. Of the results reported today:

  • Salem added 24 new cases today, bringing our total to 2,554 Salem residents who have had confirmed case of COVID-19. 
  • Salem’s active cases has increased by 18 since yesterday to 91. Salem had 73 active cases one week ago.
  • Salem’s new cases per 100K residents is 466. Yesterday it was 402. One week ago, it was 399.
  • Salem’s positivity rate for PCR & antigen results in the past week is 10.0%, a “severe” level of community transmission. Yesterday it was 7.8%. One week ago, it was 7.6%.
  • Today the new cases “by math” (yesterday vs. today’s cumulative total of positive cases as reported by DHHS) was 382. NH reported 239 people have “recovered” since yesterday’s update. After allowing for those who lost their lives today because of COVID-19, NH’s number of active cases went up by 142 to 2,476. That’s 264 more active cases than we had a week ago. 
  • Today’s new cases in NH is the highest count since February 20, over a month ago.
  • NH has had 300 new cases per 100K residents in the past 14 days. Yesterday it was 286.4 One week ago, it was 273.1.
  •  NH’s positivity rate for PCR & antigen results in the past week is 4.3%. Yesterday it was 4.0%. One week ago, it was 3.7%.
  • NH’s positivity rate for PCR results returned today is 3.5%. Yesterday it was 7.7%. A week ago, it was 1.6.
  • DHHS is reporting a total of 1,184 people who have been hospitalized as of today because of COVID-19.  This is a decrease of 2 since yesterday’s update, and an increase of 28 since last week. There were no new cases today from Rockingham County, leaving our county’s total at 266.
  • Rockingham County now has had its 20,000th case of COVID-19. The entire State of NH hit this count in late November.
  • The cumulative number of those who have been hospitalized went down by two since yesterday. One was a person in their 20’s, the other was in their 70’s. One of those is from Nashua; I have not collected enough data to identify the other location.
  • The number of patients currently hospitalized with COVID-19 is 64 which is 8 less than yesterday, and 15 less than a week ago. 
  • The cumulative total of ICU admissions had no changes for the period covered by this report for the third day in a row, leaving the total at 360. We have seen an increase of 6 ICU admissions in the past seven days.
  • There was one live lost for the period covered by this report, for a total of 1,218 people who have died in NH due to COVID-19. We have lost 16 people in NH due to COVID-19 in the past week. Today’s numbers include no one who died from Rockingham County, for a total of 222 lives lost in our county.

  • Per DHHS’s weekly vaccine update in today’s press report, 503,750 vaccine shots have been administered to patients, including 13,222 Johnson & Johnson single-dose vaccines. Of the Pfizer and Moderna two-dose vaccines, 327,416 first doses and 163,112 second doses have been administered.
  • Per DHHS’s dashboard, 25.7% of NH’s population has had one dose of a vaccine, and 13.6% of NH’s population is fully vaccinated. 2.0% have been fully vaccinated in the last 7 days.

  • DHHS reports that the new cases reside in the following counties: 
    Rockingham (112), Hillsborough County other than Manchester and Nashua (68), Merrimack (31), Strafford (28), Grafton (23), Belknap (18), Cheshire (15), Carroll (7), Coos (6), and Sullivan (3) counties, and in the cities of Manchester (29) and Nashua (27). The county of residence is being determined for nineteen new cases. 
  • Today DHHS reported the following positivity rates:
    • 91 communities with a positivity rate above 0.0% (Yesterday: 92; 1 week ago: 87)
    • 87 communities with a positivity rate above 2.0%. (Yesterday: 84; 1 week ago: 77)
