COVID-19 Update October 5

COVID-19 Update October 5

  • My frustration continues. DHHS has not updated the dashboards on their website, so many of the numbers that I use in my formulas are missing. There’s no town info, no school info, and no info about ages. 6 of the 8 webpages I use for NH numbers still have yesterday’s data. WHY does this keep happening? Is someone not doing their job? Or is NH DHHS trying to hide something? Either way, it’s unacceptable.
  • DHHS has fixed some of the issues that I pointed out yesterday.
    • The line in the data labeled “Total Persons Tested at Selected Laboratories, Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR)” has been returned, although we still don’t know if this includes antigen testing.
    • Total Persons tested for antibodies has been returned, but we still don’t have the results of those tests.
    • NH DHHS has included the positivity rate in their press report, although it’s not on their website.
  • DHHS has reported today’s positivity rate as 0.4%. I have been doing my positivity rate calculations based on the number of unique people being tested. It should be computed on the total number of tests. The total number of PCR tests as reported are not reliable, and we are not getting the number of antigen tests being performed. DHHS is not providing enough data for me to be able to verify their calculations.
    • In their press reports, NH DHHS reports seven days of “Number of Tests Conducted by Date of Report to NH DHHS.” It’s always a day late. On October 2, they reported that there were 7,181 test results reported on October 1. On October 3, they reported that there were 8,170 test results reported on October 1. Lab results were not reported on Oct 4. Today, October 5, DHHS reported that there were 8,526 test results reported on October 1. How could these test results go up 989 in one day, and an additional 356 test within two more days? That’s an increase of 1,345 in 3 days. That’s an increase of almost 19%!  If the info is reported on a specific date, shouldn’t that number remain unchanged???
    • I wish I had more faith in the reliability of the NH DHHS.

These are not simply numbers. We must not forget that these are all someone’s husband or wife, mother or father, sister or brother, son or daughter, friend or neighbor.

Here’s one of my favorite quotes from this pandemic:

We’ve got to come together and unite, recognizing that our enemy is the virus, our enemy is not one another, and we’ve got to work together to slow the spread of this virus.”

~ Gov. Tate Reeves (R), Mississippi

I wish I could see more unity. As we fight to get COVID-19 under control, and as we move forward in recovering from the pandemic, we MUST work together.

Stay safe, and always, be kind.

~ Bonnie
