COVID-19 Update March 28

  • Total: 2,618 confirmed cases in Salem. 
  • Salem today: 6 new case; 89 active cases.

On Sunday, March 28, 2021, DHHS announced 301 new positive test results for COVID-19, for a current PCR test positivity rate of 2.9%. Today’s results include 188 people who tested positive by PCR test and 113 who tested positive by antigen test. There are now 2,766 current COVID-19 cases diagnosed in New Hampshire. Of the results reported today:

Several cases are still under investigation. Additional information from ongoing investigations will be incorporated into future COVID-19 updates.

  • Salem added 6 new cases today, bringing our total to 2,618 Salem residents who have had confirmed case of COVID-19.
  • Salem’s active cases has decreased by 4 since yesterday to 89. Salem had 73 active cases one week ago. 
  • Salem’s new cases per 100K residents is 530. Yesterday it was 520. One week ago, it was 402.
  • Salem’s positivity rate for PCR & antigen results in the past week is 10.8%, a “substantial” level of community transmission. Yesterday it was 9.7%. One week ago, it was 7.8%. 
  • Today the new cases “by math” (yesterday vs. today’s cumulative total of positive cases as reported by DHHS) was 282. NH reported 332 people have “recovered” since yesterday’s update. After allowing for those who lost their lives today because of COVID-19, NH’s number of active cases went down by 52 to 2,766 since yesterday. That’s 432 more active cases than we had a week ago.
  • Since the beginning of the pandemic those aged over 60 account for 20% of all cases. In the past week, those over 60 are responsible for 10.8% of the new cases. That’s almost 50% decline for those who are eligible for vaccines. 89% of the new cases this week are those who haven’t been eligible for vaccines; those who are 10 to 30 years old have 39% of the new cases in the past week. (Based on yesterday’s data.)
  • NH has had 325.4 new cases per 100K residents in the past 14 days. Yesterday it was 316.9. One week ago, it was 286.4.
  •  NH’s positivity rate for PCR & antigen results in the past week is 4.6%. Yesterday it was 4.6%. One week ago, it was 3.0%. 
  • NH’s positivity rate for PCR results returned today is 2.9%. Yesterday it was 2.0%. A week ago, it was 7.7%.
  • DHHS is reporting a total of 1,188 people who have been hospitalized as of today because of COVID-19.  This is an increase of 3 since yesterday’s update, and an increase of 2 since last week. There was one more new hospitalizations today from Rockingham County, bringing our county’s total to 267.
  • The number of patients currently hospitalized with COVID-19 is 76 which is 2 less than yesterday, and 4 more than a week ago. 
  • The cumulative total of ICU admissions has increased by 1 for the period covered by this report, for a total of 365. We have seen an increase of 5 ICU admissions in the past seven days. 
  • Today NH DHHS reported that there were 2 lives lost for the period covered by this report, for a total of 1,237 people who have died in NH due to COVID-19. We have lost 20 people in NH due to COVID-19 in the past week. Today’s numbers include one person who died from Rockingham County, for a total of 226 lives lost in our county.

DHHS reports that the new cases reside in the following counties: 
Rockingham (86), Hillsborough County other than Manchester and Nashua (53), Strafford (30), Grafton (20), Merrimack (18), Cheshire (10), Sullivan (9), Belknap (6), Carroll (5), and Coos (3) counties, and in the cities of Nashua (27) and Manchester (23). The county of residence is being determined for eleven new cases.
