COVID-19 Update March 31

  • Total: 2,649 confirmed cases in Salem. 
  • Salem today: 24 new cases in 2 days; 99 active cases.
  • 1 out of every 11 Salem residents has been infected
  • Salem’s new cases per 100K for 14 days: 510
  • Salem’s Positivity Rate for the past 2 weeks: 8.8% 

On Wednesday, March 31, 2021, DHHS announced 486 new positive test results for COVID-19, for a current PCR test positivity rate of 1.9%. Today’s results include 207 people who tested positive by PCR test and 279 who tested positive by antigen test. There are now 3,113 current COVID-19 cases diagnosed in New Hampshire. Of the results reported today:

  • Salem added 24 new cases in the past 2 days, bringing our total to 2,649 Salem residents who have had confirmed case of COVID-19.
  • Salem’s active cases has increased by 11 in the past two days to 99. Salem had 98 active cases one week ago. 
  • Salem’s new cases per 100K residents is 510. Yesterday it was unknown. One week ago, it was 490.
  • Salem’s positivity rate for PCR & antigen results in the past week is 8.8%, a “moderate” level of community transmission. Yesterday it was unknown. One week ago, it was 8.8%. 
  • Today the new cases “by math” (yesterday vs. today’s cumulative total of positive cases as reported by DHHS) was 462. NH reported 212 people have “recovered” since yesterday’s update. After allowing for those who lost their lives today because of COVID-19, NH’s number of active cases went up by 249 to 3,113 since yesterday. That’s 257 more active cases than we had a week ago.
  • We haven’t had this many active cases since February 17. We were down to 1, 997 on March 9.
  • Today was one of those unusual days when we had more antigen test results than PCR test results.
  • NH has had 351.1 new cases per 100K residents in the past 14 days. Yesterday it was 339.0. One week ago, it was 312.1.
  • NH’s positivity rate for PCR & antigen results in the past week is 4.8%. Yesterday it was 4.6%. One week ago, it was 4.4%.
  • NH’s positivity rate for PCR results returned today is 1.9%. Yesterday it was 3.3%. A week ago, it was 2.0%.
  • DHHS is reporting a total of 1,204 people who have been hospitalized as of today because of COVID-19.  This is an increase of 7 since yesterday’s update, and an increase of 10 since last week. There were three more new hospitalization today from Rockingham County, bringing our county’s total to 272.
  • The number of patients currently hospitalized with COVID-19 is 77 which is 3 less than yesterday, and 5 less than a week ago. 
  • The cumulative total of ICU admissions has not changed for the period covered by this report, for a total of 367. We have seen an increase of 5 ICU admissions in the past seven days. This is the second day in a row with no increase in ICU admissions.
  • Today NH DHHS reported that there was 1 live lost for the period covered by this report, bringing the total to 1,238 people who have died in NH due to COVID-19. We have lost 9 people in NH due to COVID-19 in the past week. Today’s numbers includes 1 person who died from Rockingham County, for a total of 227 lives lost in our county.

DHHS reports that the new cases reside in the following counties: 
Rockingham (144), Hillsborough County other than Manchester and Nashua (60), Merrimack (54), Strafford (41), Belknap (22), Grafton (19), Carroll (13), Coos (11), Cheshire (7), and Sullivan (3) counties, and in the cities of Manchester (57) and Nashua (24). The county of residence is being determined for thirty-one new cases.
